MARNAO COLLECTIBLES
SERVICE COOPERATIVE Maranao Collectible is a social enterprise serving as a marketing platform for their handcrafted items. It now sells heirloom langkit products designed and produced by a group of internally displaced men and women in Marawi City.
Maranao Collectible seeks to provide the displaced community with product development and further assistance to self growth and finacial independence. Their partner communities are mostly women from different municipalities of Lanao del Sur and Marawi City. |
Maranao Collectibles started as a family business when Salika and her family had no other source of income during the Marwai Seige. They were internally displaced in 2017, and when they were able to return to their community, they looked for additional weavers. Their products are co-designed, although sometimes Salika designs the final products while the weavers often design their own patterns for the fabric.
Salika aims to raise awareness about the stories of the internally displaced women in her cooperative to help create a platform for them. The social enterprise's mission includes creating awareness and protecting the cultural heritage of Lanao as well. Hence, it is also important to Salika that the younger generations learn weaving. |
