Lawe was founded in 2004 by four hopeful woman: Adinindyah, Ita Natalia, Paramita Iswari and Rina Anita.
Lawe's vision includes leading a sustainable, weaving movement that conserves traditional, Indonesia hand-weaving whilst providing a self-sufficient livelihood to women artisans. Their beautiful handicrafts are created with traditional woven as the basis material. |
LAWE conserve Indonesia’s hand-weaving heritage through modern functional product transformation and regeneration of hand-weavers. It serves women by giving them the opportunity to improve their abilities through the trainings they hold.
80% of artisans at LAWE are women, and almost all of them are home based. Lawe also works closely with a main raw material supplier that employs many women weavers. It also implements a mother friendly working hours, so their home based artisans can work in their suitable working hours while taking care of the family. LAWE now organizes more than 100 artisans with the help of 17 people in their team, 14 being women. |
